3. Access requirements
PauseCafé is intended for people aged 9 and over. The app requires iOS 16 or later. Apple Watch requires an active Premium subscription.
4. Creating an account
Full use requires an account via email/password, Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential. Any unauthorised use must be reported to hello@pausecafe-app.fr.
5. Profile data and personalisation
On first use (onboarding), the app invites you to provide several optional pieces of information:
- Your usual number of caffeinated drinks per day
- Your main caffeine tracking goal
- Your daily hydration goal (from 4 to 12 glasses, with a sensible default depending on caution mode)
- The usual time of your first caffeinated drink
- Your weight (optional) — used to refine your sleep threshold and caffeine goal. It is stored on your device only and is never sent to our servers.
6. Premium subscription and pricing
The Premium subscription includes: no adverts, Apple Watch (caffeine + water), real-time active caffeine (the estimated residual caffeine, on iPhone, widget, Apple Watch and complications), the Insights tab — water ↔ caffeine correlation and, via Apple Health (read on the device), caffeine ↔ sleep and caffeine ↔ resting heart rate correlations, double points, exchanging points for physical gifts or gift/discount vouchers, custom drinks, a barcode scanner, quick access to 3 favourite drinks on iPhone and Apple Watch, 1-tap mode (logging a drink in a single tap), and smart notifications (hydration reminders, caffeine limit alert, “late coffee” warning). The estimates, correlations and alerts are indicative, fall under wellness and have no medical value. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled 24 hours before the end of the period, from your App Store Settings. Purchases are processed by Apple.
Prices shown may vary by region and time zone. The price charged is the one displayed by Apple at the time of subscription.
6bis. Apple Health (HealthKit)
- Writing (available): optional recording of your caffeine and water in Apple Health.
- Reading (Premium): sleep and resting heart rate, to analyse their link with your caffeine.
- These analyses are performed on your device. Apple Health data is never sent to our servers, to third parties, or used for advertising.
- You grant or withdraw each permission in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → PauseCafé.
PauseCafé is a wellness app: this information is indicative and does not constitute medical advice. Details in the Privacy policy (section 11bis).
7. Right of withdrawal
8. Adverts
The free version displays adverts via Google AdMob. Premium users get an ad-free experience.
9. Rewards, points and game mechanics
- Points have no monetary value
- Using a reward resets the counter to zero
- The availability of partner rewards is not guaranteed
- Points are lost if the account is deleted
- Physical gifts: a minimum of 6 months applies between two physical gift claims by the same account (cooldown).
9.1 Daily limit on drinks eligible for points
Beyond this daily limit:
- Health tracking (caffeine in mg, hydration in glasses, statistics) continues as normal.
- No points (drinks, or badges based on the number of drinks) are awarded.
- The counter resets automatically at midnight, local time zone.
Other cases where points are not awarded: caffeinated drinks logged beyond the daily mg limit (400 mg in standard mode, 200 mg in EFSA caution mode) earn no points, but are still counted in health tracking to help you stay aware of your intake. Glasses of water are never capped by an mg limit (they contain no caffeine).
9.2 How water counts in badges and challenges
- Water COUNTS as a drink for neutral counters (the “100 drinks”, “500 drinks” and “1000 drinks” badges, the “100 drinks” challenge, and the total number of entries).
- Water is NEUTRAL for caffeine-specific badges (for example “no coffee in the afternoon”, “first coffee before 9am”, “tea only”, “reduced average intake”). Water does not invalidate these badges and is not counted in caffeine averages.
- In the Premium statistics, an “Include water in stats” toggle lets you choose whether water appears in the breakdown by type, the hourly averages and the top drinks.
Right to modify: The publisher reserves the right to change the game mechanics (points scale, limits, cooldowns, badge semantics) without notice. These changes give rise to no entitlement to compensation.
9bis. Community challenges
PauseCafé offers community challenges created by the publisher. Each challenge has a defined life cycle:
9bis.1 Activation and general rules
- Available from the Community → Challenges tab
- Limited activation period (weekly, monthly or yearly depending on the challenge)
- Limited to 3 active challenges at a time per account
- Progress is measured from the date you activate the challenge
- Progress updates each time the app is opened
9bis.2 Challenge life cycle
⏰ Grace period — 3 days after the challenge ends. During this period you can no longer activate the challenge but you can still claim your points if you reached the goal. A notification is sent 24 hours before the grace period ends as a reminder to claim.
🔒 Final expiry — more than 3 days after the challenge ends. The challenge disappears from your view. Unclaimed points are permanently lost. The publisher will offer no compensation for points not claimed in time.
🏆 Display of completed successful challenges — challenges whose points have been claimed remain visible in a dedicated “My completed challenges” section for 15 days after they end, as a record of your personal wins. After that, they disappear from the interface automatically.
❌ Unsuccessful challenges — challenges whose goal was not reached by the end date disappear immediately. No participation or compensation is possible.
9bis.3 Rewards
- The reward must be claimed manually once the goal is reached, by tapping the “Claim +X pts” button
- Credited points are final (except where fraud is detected)
- Points not claimed before the end of the grace period are lost. This rule is non-negotiable and is intended to keep the system fair
9bis.4 Reminder notifications
To help you avoid losing points, the app automatically sends a reminder notification 24 hours before the grace period ends if you have a completed but unclaimed challenge. You can turn this notification off in Settings → Notifications → Alerts → Challenge & reward reminders.
9bis.5 Challenge badges
5 exclusive challenge badges: First Challenge 🎯, Triple Challenge 🔱, Iron Discipline ⚔️, Marathoner 🏃, Challenge Legend 🌋.
9bis.6 Changes
The publisher reserves the right to change, withdraw or add challenges without notice. Withdrawing a challenge does not invalidate a participation that has already been claimed. Challenges archived for more than 90 days may be permanently deleted by the publisher.
9ter. Friends system and community leaderboard
PauseCafé offers a community leaderboard and a friends system:
- The leaderboard displays only the username freely chosen by the user, along with their points, streak and level

It is not shared between separate accounts and is deleted when the account is closed.
24. Hydration tracking
PauseCafé offers a dedicated water counter, separate from caffeine tracking:
- Adjustable goal from 4 to 12 glasses a day (1 glass = 250 ml)
