English translation for convenience. This is an unofficial translation of the French Terms of Use, provided to help you understand them. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version is the only one that is legally binding.

Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026 — the French version is the binding one

1. Purpose and acceptance

These Terms govern the use of the PauseCafé mobile app and the pausecafe-app.fr website, published by Kévin Beguerie, a private individual, France. By using PauseCafé, you accept these Terms without reservation.

2. Description of the service

3. Access requirements

PauseCafé is intended for people aged 9 and over. The app requires iOS 16 or later. Apple Watch requires an active Premium subscription.

Email verification: for accounts created with an email address and password, confirming the email address is mandatory before you can access the app. A verification email is sent automatically on sign-up. Google and Apple accounts are considered verified natively.

4. Creating an account

Full use requires an account via email/password, Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential. Any unauthorised use must be reported to hello@pausecafe-app.fr.

5. Profile data and personalisation

On first use (onboarding), the app invites you to provide several optional pieces of information:

This information is entirely optional. It is used solely to personalise the experience and the notifications. You can change it at any time in the settings. It is never shared or sold.

6. Premium subscription and pricing

Monthly
2,99 €
incl. VAT per month · no commitment
Yearly — 2 months free 🎉
29,99 €
incl. VAT per year · around €2.50 incl. VAT per month

The Premium subscription includes: no adverts, Apple Watch (caffeine + water), real-time active caffeine (the estimated residual caffeine, on iPhone, widget, Apple Watch and complications), the Insights tab — water ↔ caffeine correlation and, via Apple Health (read on the device), caffeine ↔ sleep and caffeine ↔ resting heart rate correlations, double points, exchanging points for physical gifts or gift/discount vouchers, custom drinks, a barcode scanner, quick access to 3 favourite drinks on iPhone and Apple Watch, 1-tap mode (logging a drink in a single tap), and smart notifications (hydration reminders, caffeine limit alert, “late coffee” warning). The estimates, correlations and alerts are indicative, fall under wellness and have no medical value. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled 24 hours before the end of the period, from your App Store Settings. Purchases are processed by Apple.

Prices shown may vary by region and time zone. The price charged is the one displayed by Apple at the time of subscription.

6bis. Apple Health (HealthKit)

🍎 Your health data stays on your device. PauseCafé can interact with Apple Health, only with your explicit permission:

PauseCafé is a wellness app: this information is indicative and does not constitute medical advice. Details in the Privacy policy (section 11bis).

7. Right of withdrawal

Under article L.221-28 of the French Consumer Code, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content whose supply has begun with your express agreement. For any refund request: reportaproblem.apple.com.

8. Adverts

The free version displays adverts via Google AdMob. Premium users get an ad-free experience.

9. Rewards, points and game mechanics

9.1 Daily limit on drinks eligible for points

📊 Anti-abuse — fairness of the system: to keep the reward system fair and prevent misuse (points farming), only the first 10 drinks logged per calendar day (from 00:00 to 23:59 in your device's local time zone) are eligible for points. This limit applies to all entries logged (caffeinated drinks and glasses of water).

Beyond this daily limit:

Other cases where points are not awarded: caffeinated drinks logged beyond the daily mg limit (400 mg in standard mode, 200 mg in EFSA caution mode) earn no points, but are still counted in health tracking to help you stay aware of your intake. Glasses of water are never capped by an mg limit (they contain no caffeine).

9.2 How water counts in badges and challenges

💧 How water is counted:

Right to modify: The publisher reserves the right to change the game mechanics (points scale, limits, cooldowns, badge semantics) without notice. These changes give rise to no entitlement to compensation.

9bis. Community challenges

PauseCafé offers community challenges created by the publisher. Each challenge has a defined life cycle:

9bis.1 Activation and general rules

9bis.2 Challenge life cycle

📅 Active phase — from the start to the end of the challenge. You can activate it and make progress towards the goal.

⏰ Grace period — 3 days after the challenge ends. During this period you can no longer activate the challenge but you can still claim your points if you reached the goal. A notification is sent 24 hours before the grace period ends as a reminder to claim.

🔒 Final expiry — more than 3 days after the challenge ends. The challenge disappears from your view. Unclaimed points are permanently lost. The publisher will offer no compensation for points not claimed in time.

🏆 Display of completed successful challenges — challenges whose points have been claimed remain visible in a dedicated “My completed challenges” section for 15 days after they end, as a record of your personal wins. After that, they disappear from the interface automatically.

❌ Unsuccessful challenges — challenges whose goal was not reached by the end date disappear immediately. No participation or compensation is possible.

9bis.3 Rewards

9bis.4 Reminder notifications

To help you avoid losing points, the app automatically sends a reminder notification 24 hours before the grace period ends if you have a completed but unclaimed challenge. You can turn this notification off in Settings → Notifications → Alerts → Challenge & reward reminders.

9bis.5 Challenge badges

5 exclusive challenge badges: First Challenge 🎯, Triple Challenge 🔱, Iron Discipline ⚔️, Marathoner 🏃, Challenge Legend 🌋.

9bis.6 Changes

The publisher reserves the right to change, withdraw or add challenges without notice. Withdrawing a challenge does not invalidate a participation that has already been claimed. Challenges archived for more than 90 days may be permanently deleted by the publisher.

9ter. Friends system and community leaderboard

PauseCafé offers a community leaderboard and a friends system:

10. Referral programme

11. User obligations

12. Limitation of liability

PauseCafé is a personal wellness tool, provided for guidance only. The information it provides (caffeine, active caffeine, hydration, and Premium health analyses) does not constitute medical advice.

Caution mode: caution mode applies an EFSA caffeine threshold (200 mg a day) and a WHO hydration recommendation (2.3 L / 9 glasses of water a day) for guidance only. It is not a substitute for care from a healthcare professional.
Active caffeine & health analyses: active caffeine is an estimate based on a population average (a half-life of about 5 h), not a measurement of your body. The correlations offered with Premium describe personal statistical associations and establish no cause-and-effect link. This information is indicative and not medical.

13. Force majeure

The publisher cannot be held liable for non-performance resulting from an event of force majeure (article 1218 of the French Civil Code).

14. Intellectual property

PauseCafé, its code, its design and its content are the exclusive property of Kévin Beguerie, protected under French intellectual property law.

15. Personal data

Data processing is described in our Privacy policy. Processors: Google Firebase, Brevo SAS, Google AdMob, Apple StoreKit. Apple Health (HealthKit) data is processed on the device and is not passed to these processors.

16. Changes to these Terms

The publisher may amend these Terms. Continued use constitutes acceptance. You will be notified in the app in the event of a substantial change.

17. Termination

You can delete your account from the settings. The publisher may suspend an account for breach of these Terms.

18. Mediation

19. Governing law

20. Administrative management and bonuses

The publisher may manually grant bonus points or Premium periods as a gesture of support or loyalty. Such awards create no obligation to repeat them and are notified by email via Brevo.

21. Physical gifts and gift vouchers

Reserved for Premium subscribers. Depending on availability, the publisher may deliver either a physical gift or a gift or discount voucher of equivalent value. A 6-month cooldown applies between two claims by the same account. The postal or email delivery address is collected with consent, used solely for delivery, and deleted within 90 days of dispatch. Dispatch takes place within 10 working days of confirmation. No refund in points is possible after confirmation.

🇫🇷 Delivery area: physical gifts are shipped exclusively to mainland France. French overseas territories (DROM-COM), Corsica, Monaco and other countries are not covered at present. If you claim a gift from these areas, the publisher may offer you a digital gift voucher instead, or credit your points back.

22.3 Mandatory transactional emails

📨 Some emails cannot be switched off because they are essential to the operation of your account or the delivery of your rewards:

These emails remain active even if you switch off the master “App emails” toggle. They are not sent for marketing purposes.

22.4 Weekly report

The Monday weekly report is an optional feature. It can be switched on or off at any time in Settings → Notifications → Emails → Weekly report. Switching it off does not affect the other transactional emails listed in 22.3.

22.5 Processor

23. Favourite drinks and 1-tap mode (Premium)

The Favourite drinks (up to 3) and 1-tap mode features are reserved for Premium subscribers. It is not shared between separate accounts and is deleted when the account is closed.

24. Hydration tracking
